Apple Stock News: The first Geekbench 6 results for the new Mac Pro with the M2 Ultra chip show it performs more than twice as fast as the highest-end Intel-based model. The single-core score is 2,794 and the multi-core score is 21,453, compared to 1,378 and 10,390 for the Intel-based version. The new Mac Pro starts at $6,999, offering the same performance at a lower price. If you don’t need PCI Express expansion, the Mac Studio with the M2 Ultra chip is a good alternative at $3,999. The new Mac Pro has a similar design to the 2019 model but lacks support for graphics cards and user-upgradeable RAM due to Apple silicon’s unified memory. It is now available after pre-orders were taken last week.
MacBook Air’s Design
Apple’s VP of hardware engineering, Kate Bergeron, and marketing employee, Laura Metz, discussed the design of the new 15-inch MacBook Air in an interview with Tom’s Guide. They mentioned the larger display and two additional speakers. Bergeron explained that the 15-inch model achieves the same battery life as the 13-inch version through thermal control loops and software optimizations. When asked about additional ports, Metz stated that Apple believes the existing port selection complements the thin and light design. The interview provides insights into Apple’s design choices for the 15-inch MacBook Air and is worth reading. The laptop is now available after pre-orders started last week.

The upcoming Apple TV+ show “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” is reportedly being filmed in 3D format to enhance the immersive experience of Apple’s Vision Pro headset. This would be the first confirmed TV+ show to support the 3D features of the $3,499 headset. Apple’s VisionOS software provides a Cinematic Environment with spatial audio and a virtual screen that feels 100 feet wide. The technology was showcased during WWDC, using scenes from James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” to demonstrate its immersive capabilities. The release date for the Godzilla TV series, produced by Legendary Television with Chris Black as executive producer and showrunner, is yet to be revealed. The series is set after the battle between Godzilla and the Titans in San Francisco.
Trademark Battle
Apple may need to rename its new mixed reality headset in China due to a trademark conflict with Huawei. Huawei owns the “Vision Pro” trademark in China, which grants exclusive rights to its use until November 27, 2031. Huawei actively utilizes the trademark for various products, including smart TVs and smart glasses. To sell the headset in China under the name “Vision Pro,” Apple might have to negotiate with Huawei for the release of the trademark, potentially involving a financial agreement. This situation is not new for Apple, as it previously paid $60 million to Proview Technology in 2012 to acquire the rights to the “iPad” trademark in China. Apple plans to launch the Vision Pro headset in the United States early next year and expand to other countries in 2024.
