Apple News: Wal-Mart Mobile System to compete with Apple Pay

Apple News

Apple is known to  have quite a few competitors in the tech industry, most notably, Microsoft, Google, and IBM. Now it appears they have a new rival  in the giant retail corporation, Wal-mart.

Wal-mart Just announced that they will be testing a new mobile payment system that will allow shoppers to pay with any major credit or debit card or its own store gift card through its app at the cash register. It plans to launch the payment feature in all 4,500-plus U.S. stores in the first half of next year.

Wal-mart is hardly the first company with this idea. However, what makes this interesting is that it will be the first mobile payment system to work on the iPhone and the Android. Currently the Apple Pay was the only available option for the iPhone.

The “Walmart Pay” app may not necessarily work against Apple as the Walmart app is designed to work with systems like Apple Pay, if the customer chooses to do so. Apple Pay has already begun to work with other major corporations, such as Starbucks, Dominos,  and Cinnabon.
