What to Expect – Apple WWDC 2018

Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off on June 4, 2018 at the McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, Calif. The primary focus of the event is contenting pros, and decision makers for technical sessions and brainstorming over the direction of Apple’s software universe in the coming year.

In contrast to last year, Apple is expected to introduce new software, with some hardware announced. In addition, Apple is also expected to update operating systems for Mac computers, the Apple Watch and Apple TV.

What to Expect?

As of last year, Apple used the event as a launch pad not just for OS updates- macOS High Sierra, Apple iOS 11, but also for major hardware moves – MacBook Air, new iMacs.

This year Apple is expected to update its mobile iOS and computing-centric macOS operating systems. The software update for existing iPhones and iPads is expected to be called iOS12 while the next version of macOS is still under wraps. Naturally, you can expect stability and performance improvements with the new operating systems.

Apple’s Siri is expected to get smarter as Apple’s offering has fallen woefully behind competitors like Amazon’s Alexa and Google’s Assistant in recent years.

WWDC is a developer’s event, but that hasn’t stopped Apple from introducing new hardware products in the past. For this year’s event the chances that Apple will introduce new products are slim, but if they do, users should expect updated MacBook, improved Airpods and maybe a new Apple Watch.

OLED is a new display technology, used to create thin, power efficient and bright display. In the 2017 iPhone X, Apple started adopting OLEDs and it is expected to introduce new OLED modules in its 2018 WWDC. As OLEDs provide a better image quality, and are also thinner, lighter, flexible and more efficient than LCDs, it is only a matter of time until Apple will switch to OLEDs with all its iPhones and mobile device.

Investors’ expectations for new and improved software and hardware follow with an increase of 1.59% in AAPL stock in 3 days. Stock price jumped from $187.11 to $190.15 per share.

Following the above, APPL stock grows every year with WWDC announcements. With Apple’s new and improved software hardware expected this year AAPL stock is expected to continue growing in the long-term estimation, as long as it remains updated and innovative.

Last month, Apple announced the launch of the HomePod. The HomePod is essentially both a state-of-the-art speaker and a smart assistant that is capable of answering user queries. Together with Apple Music, users will have instant access to one of the largest music catalogs in the world, 40 million songs to be exact. Perhaps most impressively, the device is able to sense the room and tune the music all by itself. The HomePod will be available for purchase in December and is accompanied by a $349 price tag.

According to new data from Raymond James, consumers have shown more interest in Apple’s siri-powered HomePod speaker than they did in the Apple Watch when that product was first released. Suggesting that the HomePod will be a bestseller this upcoming holiday season. 14 percent of iPhone owners plan to buy a HomePod according to a research note published by Raymond James. When the financial services firm conducted a similar survey prior to the launch of the Apple Watch, a mere 6 percent of iPhone owners were interested in buying the product. Apple’s “other products” category, which includes the Apple Watch, Beats Speakers, AirPods, and more, increased 31 percent year on year. Raymond James anticipates that not only will this growth continue but that the HomePod could help the category.

The bad news for Apple: the HomePod will compete against existing smart home products including the Amazon Echo. However, a combined 19 percent of iPhone owners plan to buy either a HomePod or a Beats product ahead of the 16 percent planning to buy an Echo. Meaning that Apple actually comes out ahead of the Amazon Echo in regards to consumer purchase intention.

Siri’s Successor, Viv, Has Its First Public Demo

The people that first brought Siri to Apple’s iPhones just debuted, for the first time, a new artificial intelligence system with seemingly endless possibilities. When Siri was first introduced, her ability to understand and interact with iPhone users was an impressive advancement in artificial intelligence. However, it didn’t take long for users to see the shortcomings of the technology. Siri can only perform tasks that are explicitly implemented by Apple’s engineers. While checking your calendar and making a reservation with the OpenTable restaurant reservation app is no problem, put those two functions together in order to reserve a table on your next available night is a step beyond her capabilities as of now.

Engineers at Viv Labs have been working for years to create a more advanced artificial intelligence system that will not have these same limitations. Viv uses deep learning to go beyond implemented tasks, the system will be able to teach itself in order to perform virtually any task that is asked of it.

On Monday, May 9th, Dag Kittlaus, one of the creators of Siri and CEO of Viv, gave the first public demonstration of the AI virtual system, Viv. Kittlaus began with a simple query, one regarding the weather on that particular day, before showing what Viv can really do by asking, “Will it be warmer than 70-degrees near the Golden gate bridge after 5pm the day after tomorrow?” Each question was answered without a glitch.

Next, Viv’s capabilities in interacting with various apps were displayed. When given the request to send $20 to a friend for the drinks he had bought the night before, Venmo was opened and the entire transaction was finished with just one click. The integration of third-party apps is a clear strength that Siri simply cannot compete with.

Kittlaus has said before that, ““Siri is chapter one of a much longer, bigger story,” which can easily be seen in the demo that he gave yesterday.

Apple Stock News: What Is Rumored About The New iPhone 6S and 6S Plus

Apple Stock News

Apple’s flagship event is set to take place on Wednesday the 9th of September. The annual fall event is one which is always eagerly anticipated as Apple tend to reveal many of its upcoming projects to the public. Many speculators are expecting a new iPhone, called iPhone 6S. Many also believe that Apple will unveil a bigger more sophisticated iPad and will reveal more details about its new and improved Apple TV projects.

Along side the iPhone 6S, Apple will also release the new 6S Plus, which will feature several upgrades to the current iPhone models. It is rumored that the new iPhones will have a Force Touch feature which works on pressure sensitivity. Meaning the iPhone will know where exactly you are pressing and how hard you are doing so. Moreover, the new phones are expected to boast a 20 megapixel rear camera that can shoot 4K videos as well as a A9 improved processor.

A rumored downside to the new phone is that the phone will be slightly thicker, approximately by one millimeter. The thicker case is likely due to new aluminum used for the shell used to help stop the bending problem some people have had with the iPhone 6.

The iPhone 6S and 6S Plus are expected to come in 16GB, 32 GB and 128 GB size variations with a price tag of $299, $399 and $499, respectively. Furthermore, a significant decrease in price for the iPhone 6  is also likely, post the announcement of the new phones.
