Apple Stock News: According to an Omdia report, the upcoming OLED MacBook Pro (codenamed “MacBook Ultra”) is set to be the primary driver of the hybrid OLED laptop display market, valued at $4 billion this year. Apple will use a hybrid Oxide TFT and tandem OLED architecture in its laptops for the first time (already used in the iPad Pro), offering higher brightness, improved power efficiency, and a longer lifespan. The panels will be manufactured by Samsung Display.

Analysts predict that by 2033, such panels will account for 89.5% of the market. According to Ming-Chi Kuo and Mark Gurman, the laptop will feature a touchscreen, a thinner and lighter chassis, and a “pill-shaped” camera cutout instead of the notch. The devices are expected to be powered by M6 chips and launch in 2027 due to the global memory chip shortage. The new model may also come with a higher price point and a new premium “Ultra” tier.

New AI Architecture

Apple has announced a major overhaul of its Apple Intelligence platform, revealing a new architecture built on foundation models co-developed with Google using Gemini technologies. The new architecture is centered on Apple Foundation Models, which are adapted to run both on-device and on servers via its existing Private Cloud Compute infrastructure. The upgraded models enable new capabilities, including realistic image creation, advanced photo editing, and visual question answering. A high-power version with features like speech generation and improved natural language understanding will be available on select devices.

A new system orchestrator sits at the heart of the revised architecture, securely coordinating Apple Intelligence features across platforms and allowing the system to tailor responses based on the active app and the user’s current task. Apple framed its approach as a contrast to competitors it characterized as “racing forward” without regard for users. The company reiterated that Apple Intelligence relies on on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute, promising that user data is only used to execute the immediate request and is not accessible to Apple or third parties.

Production Surge

According to a TrendForce report, in the first quarter of 2026, Apple increased iPhone production by 19.7% YoY to 60.2 million units, while the global smartphone market overall contracted by 1.7%. The company ranked second, behind Samsung (62.6 million units). This growth was driven by the launch of the iPhone 17e. Unlike its competitors, Apple did not raise prices despite the rising cost of memory chips, and is instead focusing on capturing market share to grow its services business. The outlook for the year is negative: global smartphone production is forecast to fall by 16.2% to 1.051 billion units due to the ongoing rise in component prices.
