Preinstall Government ID App
India will not require smartphone makers like Apple and Samsung to preinstall the state-owned Aadhaar biometric identification app.The Unique Identification Authority of India had proposed making the preinstallation mandatory, but the IT ministry rejected the idea after consulting with industry stakeholders.Apple has consistently opposed such requirements, citing privacy and security concerns. The company previously refused to preinstall another government app, Sanchar Saathi, leading the government to drop the demand.
