Apple Stock News: Outperforming

Apple Stock News: Sales of the iPhone 17 exceeded those of the iPhone 16 by 14% within the first 10 days in the US and China. The standard iPhone 17 became the best-selling model due to its favorable change-to-price ratio, especially in China where sales almost doubled. Improvements include a new chip, better display, increased memory capacity, and an upgraded front camera at the same price point. In the US, the growth in sales of the iPhone 17 Pro Max was driven by an increase in operator subsidies of about $100. Sales of the iPhone Air are slightly ahead of last year’s model despite a delayed launch in China. Overall trends indicate that the iPhone 17 cycle started more successfully than the iPhone 16 cycle.

No Demand

Apple is drastically cutting production of the iPhone Air and refocusing efforts on the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro due to weak consumer interest. Despite earlier reports of quick sellouts in China, overall demand turned out to be low. According to a KeyBanc Capital Markets investor survey, there is virtually no demand for the iPhone Air, and buyers are not willing to pay extra for folding phones. Other iPhone 17 models enjoy healthy demand, with preference given to Pro and Pro Max versions. Artificial intelligence hasn’t had a significant impact on purchasing decisions so far. Japanese company Mizuho Securities reported a reduction in iPhone Air production by one million units, while iPhone 17 production is planned to increase by two million. Samsung cancelled plans to release a successor to its competitor, the Galaxy S25 Edge, due to poor sales.

Apple is moving assembly of its new Vision Pro with the M5 chip and Dual Knit headband to Vietnam. Previously, the device with the M2 chip was manufactured in China. Many Apple products besides iPhones are now being produced outside of China: most devices intended for the U.S. market are made in Vietnam, iPhone 17 smartphones are produced in India, and an increasing number of Mac computers are assembled in Thailand and Malaysia. Protective glass for iPhones and Apple Watches will be manufactured in the U.S.
