Apple Stock News: Struggling in China
Apple Stock News: Apple plans to launch Apple Intelligence in China through cooperation with the local company Baidu, according to The Information. The country has strict requirements for security and privacy, so public AI technology requires regulatory approval. To achieve this, Apple is adapting Baidu’s Ernie 4.0 model for use on the iPhone, but difficulties arise with understanding queries and providing accurate responses.Baidu wants to use user data to train the model, while Apple insists on personalized answers without collecting data. This causes disagreements between the companies. Additionally, Apple pays Baidu for using their models and covers computational expenses, unlike the collaboration with OpenAI, which is free for both parties.
M5 Mass Production
Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the iPad Pro with Apple’s M5 processor will start mass production in the second half of next year. BYD Electronics will be the primary assembler for this device and the upcoming display-equipped HomePod, scheduled for late 2025. Apple has already ordered M5 chips from TSMC, which will use a 3-nanometer process. Despite skipping TSMC’s 2nm process, the M5 is expected to significantly improve upon the M4, thanks to SoIC technology. There are no other known updates for the M5 iPad Pro, although Apple may change the rear logo orientation to landscape.
New HomePod
Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple’s HomePod with a display, originally expected in 2024, has been delayed until after WWDC 2025, likely launching in Q3. The device is rumored to feature a 6-7 inch display, Apple’s A18 processor, and support for Apple Intelligence. The delay is attributed to software development challenges. Kuo suggests initial shipments could reach 500,000 units in H2 2025. Tianma Microelectronics will supply panels, and BYD Electronics will handle assembly. Additionally, Apple may introduce a wireless smart home IP camera in 2026 to complement the new HomePod.
