Apple Stock News: Apple’s shift to OLED displays for all iPhones will exclude longtime Japanese suppliers Japan Display (JDI) and Sharp from its supply chain. Since introducing OLED screens with the iPhone X in 2017, Apple has phased out LCDs, causing JDI and Sharp’s shipments to drop from 200 million units in 2015 to just 20 million by 2023. JDI now focuses on automotive LCDs, while Sharp is downsizing its LCD business.

For the upcoming iPhone SE, Apple is sourcing OLED displays from China’s BOE Technology and South Korea’s LG Display. The new SE is expected to resemble the iPhone 14, featuring Face ID, a USB-C port, an Action button, a 5G modem, an A18 processor, a larger 6.06-inch display, and 8GB of RAM. Production is set to begin in October, with a potential release in January or March 2025.

Apple is expected to announce new Mac models with M4-series chips in November 2024, according to confidential information obtained by MacRumors. This would mark the first time the launch month for M4 Macs has been specified, although an October event to unveil the new machines is still possible.

Rumors indicate Apple will release four new Macs with M4 chips: an entry-level 14-inch MacBook Pro, updated 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, a new iMac, and a redesigned Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chips. These models are expected to be minor refreshes focusing on chip upgrades, potentially featuring 16GB of memory as standard. Some are already in mass production, aligning with a November launch.

Apple is reportedly in talks to invest in OpenAI, potentially valuing the company behind ChatGPT at over $100 billion, according to The Wall Street Journal. Details on the investment amount or the discussions are not disclosed. Apple has announced that ChatGPT will be integrated into Siri on iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia by year-end. Siri will display ChatGPT answers, and users can generate text and images using Apple’s Writing Tools feature, powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o model.

iPhone, iPad, and Mac users can access ChatGPT for free without an account, while ChatGPT Plus subscribers can connect their accounts for additional features. Apple assures that OpenAI will not store requests from its devices, and user IP addresses will be obscured. These new features, currently in beta testing, require an iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or a Mac or iPad with an M1 chip or newer, with U.S. English support initially, and more languages coming next year.
