Apple Stock News: Apple’s supply chain has begun mass production of next-generation 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4 Pro and M4 Max chips, according to DigiTimes. This aligns with analyst Ross Young’s report that display shipments for these models are underway. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously mentioned that these high-end MacBooks with M4 chips are expected later this year, likely in October, a common month for Apple Mac announcements.
The standard M4 chip, which debuted in the iPad Pro earlier this year, offers up to 25% faster multi-core CPU performance than the M3 chip. However, no major design changes are expected for the new MacBook Pros, and an OLED display remains a few years away. Apple’s last Mac event was in October 2023, suggesting another October event could be on the horizon.
Telephoto Lens
This year, Apple will bring the Tetraprism Telephoto lens, previously exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, to both iPhone 16 Pro models. According to The Elec, LG Innotek will supply the initial folded zoom modules, with the iPhone 16 Pro models expected to launch on September 20. The Tetraprism lens allows for a 120mm focal length, offering 5x optical zoom and 25x digital zoom. Once initial stock is depleted, likely by Q4, Apple may turn to Foxconn and Cowell for additional modules to reduce costs. Sharp is not expected to supply camera modules this year.
Fall Launch
Apple is ramping up testing of four new Mac models with M4 chips, reports Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. These include refreshed versions of the MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac, possibly launching in October. Developer logs show three Macs with a 10-core CPU and GPU, while a fourth has an 8-core CPU and GPU, an unconfirmed M4 configuration. All models feature either 16GB or 32GB of Unified Memory. Gurman doesn’t mention M4 Pro or M4 Max chips, leaving it unclear if only base M4 models are being introduced or if higher-end versions are also planned. Prior rumors suggest updates for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros.
