According to The Elec, LG Display is preparing to supply a micro-OLED Display panel for Apple’s second-generation mixed reality headset. LG Display is rumored to be ordering deposition equipment for micro-OLED displays from Sunic System. The company plans to use the device to develop and manufacture tiny OLED display panels for Apple’s second-generation mixed reality headset. While LG Display is believed to be part of the supply chain for Apple’s first-generation headphones, it is not expected to offer its main Display, and SONY is said to be providing the main micro-OLED Display panel for the first-generation headphones.

With its second-generation headphones, LG hopes to take over Apple’s main micro-OLED display order from SONY. This is also said to be in Apple’s interest, as SONY will indirectly compete with Apple’s headsets through its PlayStation VR headset. Late last year, Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said Apple was already working on its second generation of headphones, which aim to deliver better performance with a lighter design, improved battery system, and a faster processor. Guo said the shipping schedule for the second generation earphones is in the second half of 2024, about two years after the first generation earphones are rumored to begin mass production.
