Apple is enhancing Siri , competing directly with Amazon-Echo
After years of research about how to do so, the company is preparing to allow Siri to link to apps available on the Store. And it is working on an Amazon Echo-like device with a speaker and microphone that people can use to turn on music, get news headlines or set a timer.
Apple is preparing to release a software developer kit, or SDK, for app developers who want their apps to be accessible through Siri, according to a person with direct knowledge of the effort. Apple claims that Siri’s speaker was in development way before Amazon Echo was released.
Amazon Echo is a wireless speaker and voice command device from Amazon.com. The device is capable of voice interaction, music playback, making to-do lists, setting alarms, streaming podcasts, playing audiobooks, and providing weather, traffic and other real-time information. It can also control several smart devices.
The one advantage of an Apple device is out-of-the-box control for Apple HomeKit and Apple TV, meaning that it would be extra useful, extra quickly, for the faithful. Ah, vendor lock-in thou art a heartless bitch! µ
