Just weeks after Apple has settled with Italian authorities over allegations of tax evasion, Apple is making more, albeit more positive, headlines in Italy. Today they announced that they will be opening The iOS App Development Center in Naples, which will train students to develop applications for Apple’s ecosystem. This move shows that Apple is dedicated to developing the future of their developers as well as implies Apple’s commitment to expanding their operations well beyond the US.
According to researcher Dr. Michael Mandel of the Progressive Policy Institute, Apple supports more than 1.4 million jobs, creating employment for programmers, app developers, and software engineers. Developers in Europe have earned €10.2 billion from the App Store alone.
CEO Tim Cook explains “Europe is home to some of the most creative developers in the world and we’re thrilled to be helping the next generation of entrepreneurs in Italy get the skills they need for success.”
