Apply and BMW may still be on course to produce the much anticipated Apple Car in the upcoming future. The two companies have been discussing the idea over the past several months. However, it is thought that talks broke down between the two giants earlier this year. Although no deal has officially materialized, Rueters have reported that Tim Cook and other senior officials have toured the luxury automobile’s headquarters earlier this month. It is understood that Apple are very keen on basing their Apple Car idea on the BMW electric i3 model.

It is unlikely that an immediate deal will be reached, as Apple has allegedly decided to explore developing a passenger car of its own. Furthermore, it is thought that BMW remain tight lipped about sharing its manufacturing knowledge as it wants to avoid becoming a simple supplier to the software giant.  Further doubt is put on the potential deal because of the recent reshuffling of the BMW hierarchy, which seems unwilling to establish a partnership with Apple.

On the other hand,  throughout the visit, Apple executives asked BMW board members detailed questions about tooling and production, and BMW executives signaled readiness to license parts. In addition, if BMW want to become the pioneers of the next-generation vehicles, it cannot be possible without input from telecoms and software experts such as Apple.
