Apple held a large event on Monday, where the company released more information on the Apple Watch and unveiled other new products. The Apple Watch will be made available to the public on April 24th, with many of the features of a cellphone. Prices for the Apple Watch Sport will start at $349, while the mid-range Apple Watch will start at $549. The Apple Watch Edition, with an 18-karat gold band, will start at $10,000.
At the event, Apple emphasized the watch’s notifications, which will alert users of scheduled events, social media happenings, and breaking news with a gentle tap on the wrist. Other features include the ability to make phone calls, read and send messages, make payments with Apple Pay, and track workouts using a built in accelerometer and heart rate sensor. Apple also announced that the battery will last 18 hours.
Besides updates on the Apple Watch, Apple also announced a new MacBook and a partnership with HBO. The new MacBook will be the lightest ever, and is 24% thinner than the MacBook Air. It has one port, a USB-C, that does everything, including power, USB, DisplayPort, HDMI, and VGA in one. It will come in three colors, and the price starts at $1299. In addition, Apple announced that HBO will now be available on Apple TV, iPhones, and iPads for $14.99 a month in the US.
